Milo's First Birthday

For mom and dad, it seemed like it would never come, and also like it was coming faster everyday, and finally of course it did - Milo's first birthday! Whether he realized it or not, Milo David turned one on May 25. And whether he realized it or not, Milo (and his parents) was very lucky because there were so many friends and family who wanted to celebrate with him, he had not one, but three birthdays!

The first celebration took place at home in Paris, with Papitou (grandpa Jean-Guy) and family coming together a few days before the 25th.

Milo ate his first slice of birthday cake, a real carrot cake with cream cheese frosting thanks to mom.

Taking part in the party was Milo's great aunt Anne -

And Milo's big cousin Paule...

And great great aunt Sabine too, who brought some new toy trucks, which Milo loved. He liked Sabine's fun and games even more though, especially horsey riding until everyone was giggling.

And Papitou brought a special candle to light up Milo's first year on earth.

Present opening spilled over to the next day even, as many gifts had come in from Minnesota. Like colorful building cups from grandma and grandpa.

And a new bike too!

A new Twins baseball outfit from great Auntie Carla and Uncle George -

And wonderful noisy books about trains and animals from Rachel and Will, and Auntie Krissy and Uncle Matt...

Boy are birthdays tiring!

Next, Milo left for a special 'just me and my mom' trip to Brittany, to celebrate together with Maminou (grandma Françoise) and the whole family there – and especially his cousin Julia (daughter of Perrine's first cousin Antoine and Véronique) who amazingly has the same birthday as Milo, one year ahead!

One train trip and Milo and mom were back in Brittany for lots of fun activities, like riding the rocking horse...

Trying out manly sailor poses in his sailor outfit...

Making carrot cake...

Picking flowers...

Learning how to go down a slide with Thaïs, daughter of Perrine's old friend Mélanie.

And being silly in the garden...

The big double birthday party with Julia was to be on Saturday the 26th, but it was too hard to let the the 25th go by without just sharing at least a little buttery Breton cake!

The big day was indeed on Saturday, when the great grandparents, aunts and cousins all came over, everyone with another cake or treat to share for Julia's 2nd and Milo's 1st birthdays.

Everyone gave a birthday toast to Julia and Milo...

Milo had to be convinced that for now water was a better choice for him than champagne though...

The kids got plenty of nice presents...

But the nicest gift was to be together for hugs and celebration with the Brittany family...

Back home again, the non-stop birthday week finally came to a close with a big triple birthday garden party with friends in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil.

Milo, Anna (Charlotte and Dominique's daughter) and Victor (Perrine and Greg's son) all have birthdays within about a week of each other, with Anna turning one as well and Victor turning three.

Benji and Andrée's daughter Alix, who brought balloons to the party...

In the end, it's true you can have too much of a good thing, but perhaps at least when it comes to your first birthday, it's sometimes ok to indulge in the fullest...
