After his very fun birthday party back home with all his Paris friends, Milo enjoyed a second round of birthday partying at the end of May, with a trip to Brittany to see Maminou and Papitou.
We packed up our most important possessions

And hopped back into the train for the long trip out to Brest.
We arrived in Brest in the afternoon at Maminou's house in the afternoon to find that she and Paul had prepared a great birthday spread. Papitou, great grandma Maïé, great aunt Colette and cousin Lisa all came to celebrate.
Maminou's present for Milo was a huge hit: a new swing!

After a nice afternoon all together, we got into Papitou's car and headed to his home in Douarnenez, where we spent the rest of the weekend. It was Milo's first time staying overnight at Papitou's post-retirement home. There, we found our bedroom specially arranged for Milo and maman and daddy.
In the morning, we mapped out our adventures for the weekend, and headed out into town to go buy provisions for the weekend at the market.

We then headed out for a long walk around Douarnenez and its environs...
We hunted for the best picnic spot with the most scenic view...
And finally found it...
We visited the ancient Roman Garum factory, where they once made a fermented fish sauce from sardines, used as a condiment in Roman cuisine and elsewhere in the ancient world.
Douarnenez has been a fishing port for centuries, and is still today is known for its (canned) sardines.
Towards the end of our walk we cooled our feet in an old communal washing pool...
And rested in a garden overlooking Douarnenez...
Our stay coincided with the annual cardboard boat competition, when people build boats from cardboard then race them (if the actually float!).

Afterwards we walked to one of the nearby beaches...
That evening, we went for a hike on one of the coastal nature trails nearby...
We got home in time to watch the sunset from Papitou's window...
Out last day we went to Plomodiern to visit Jean-Guy's wonderful old stone coastal guard house Ty Gard and have a hike and fireside lunch...
Later we went to visit the farm of Perrine's distant cousin in Plomodiern, in whose gîtes/summer houses we stayed during our wedding in Plomodiern. Milo never got around to going inside, there was too much AMAZING stuff to see in the barn! (Milo LOVES tractors.)

Sigh... Paris is great, but there's nothing like the countryside sometimes... suffice to say it was a very long trip home...
