Visits from Family and Old Friends

While we do enjoy spending time alone at home with our increasingly giggling and cooing Milo David, an afternoon or evening from time to time with beloved family and dear friends spices up the cloistered lives of these new parents, that's for sure! And we've been lucky enough to have some very lovely visits in recent weeks -

To start with, cousin Elaine came to visit! She was fresh off the plane from Minnesota in Paris for the start of a literal tour de France by bus and train, and she took us all out to eat at the chic little neighborhood bistro Café Constant, on the swanky rue Saint Dominique not far from the Eiffel tower and her hotel.

Elaine came bearing gifts, notably two wonderful books of fairy tales and Mother Goose rhymes.

 Milo, who has heard all his books read to him several times over by now, was thrilled to have some fresh reading material.

We had a very fun time, with lots of good conversation, despite Elaine's jetlag which certainly didn't show—until she finally hit the wall and bid us au revoir, hopping in a taxi to head to her pillow at last.

And oh, the food was quite good too – duck with a kind of shepherd's pie, free range chicken, sea bass and oyster tartar, and crab salad - num!

Our next visit was from our friend Aziliz, who came with someone special in tow—her new born daughter Onenn. We'd been awaiting this visit for a long time. Aziliz and Perrine had the same May due date, and we spent time with she and her husband Pol this spring in Brittany. 

It was the first time Aziliz had been back to our apartment since last January, when she and Perrine were comparing their growing stomachs—it seemed such a short time ago !

Onenn ended up being born five days after Milo—and now at four months they finally met!

Onenn is a very beautiful, very healthy little girl, and we look forward to seeing much more of her and her parents, who have now moved to Cambridge, England for studies and work. We hope to coordinate some visits to them and auntie Becca soon!

 Finally, Jeffrey's old friend Cory, who he met when the family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1996, came through Paris recently as well, and dropped by the apartment for a visit. Cory is now a curatorial fellow at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and was coming through Paris on a courier mission with some priceless painting she was seeing delivered for the museum. We had so much fun, and Jeffrey got very nostalgic about his years in Omaha, but it was also great to enjoy in this Parisian context some lively discussion and good eating with Cory, who is as much of a funny and cultured bon vivant as ever.
